CE marking for machinery

Compliance assessment required for products covered by the ED directives.

The 2006/42/EC Machinery Directive concerns the design, construction and marketing of machines and quasi-machines, interchangeable equipment, safety components, lifting accessories, removable mechanical transmission devices, chains, ropes and belts.

The Directive, in detail:

  • distinguishes the categories of machinery that have a high potential hazard for the operator/user (Annex IV) from the other categories
  • defines the essential safety requirements for machines (Annex I)
  • depending on the type of machines, codifies the processes for the manufacturers in order to obtain a Declaration of Conformity and the CE marking
  • constitutes a mandatory requirement for the free marketing of these products in the EU Member States.

Why IBSC?

We are authorised to operate conformity assessment procedures in accordance with Annexes IX and X to the Directive for the types of machines listed in Annex IV, which you can consult in the text of the downloadable notification.
For machinery and safety components not included in Annex IV, IBSC may issue a Voluntary Examination Certificate, at the manufacturer’s request.
